Music Monday: That's How You Know

After a rough week -- my 84-year-old mom is in the hospital after dislocating her hip for the third time in a month on Thursday and is having very complicated surgery on Wednesday -- I considered a repeat of my October "Lightning Crashes" post, but I've decided to go with something light and breezy instead of focusing on the cycles of life, death, and growing old.

London and Maddie have been into American Idol this season, staying up way past their bedtimes to vote for their favorites. Our entire family thinks Crystal Bowersox is likely to win it all, but Maddie has rooted for 17-year-old Katie Stevens since her audition. The judges keep telling Katie to sing something "young" and "current," but it is clear that Katie is an old soul who can't relate to Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, or the Jonas Brothers. We did some thinking, and came up with a few suggestions for Katie Stevens: something young, but from another decade (e.g., "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton-John in Grease or "It's In His Kiss (Shoop Shoop Song)" done by Merry Clayton and Betty Everett in the 60s, covered by Cher in the movie Mermaids in 1990 and featured on Roxy's Bay Head Blog this week) or something from a Disney movie or Broadway show that would show off Katie's "big voice"... like "That's How You Know" from Enchanted... two summers ago, that's all the girls wanted to sing in the car on the way to Annie's Playhouse Summer Stars. If Katie Stevens wants to spice it up a little, there's a Disney Rock version by Demi Lovato, too...

Ladies, enjoy the McDreamy eye candy...

(A Capella, Giselle)
How does she know you love her?
How does she know she's yours?
(Marlon Saunders - Calypso Singer)
How does she know that you love her?
(Giselle)
How do you show her you love her?
(Together)
How does she know that you really really truly love her?
How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?
How does she know that you really really truly love her?
(Giselle)
It's not enough to take the one you love for granted
You must remind her or she'll be inclined to say
"How do I know he loves me?
How do I know he's mine?"

Well does he leave a little note to tell you you are on his mind?
Send you yellow flowers when the sky is Grey? Heyy!
He'll find a new way to show you a little bit every day
That's how you know
That's how you know he's your love

(Calypso Singer)
You got to show her you need her
Don't treat her like a mind reader
Each little something to lead her to believe you love her

(Giselle)
Everybody wants to live happily ever after
Everybody wants to know their true love is true
How do you know he loves you?
How do you know he's yours?

Well does he take you out dancing just so he can hold you close?
Dedicate a song with words meant just for you?
He'll find someway to tell you with the little things he'll do
That's how you know
That's how you know he's your love
He's your love

That's how you know he loves you
That's how you know it's true

Because he'll wear your favorite color just so he can match your eyes
Plan a private picnic by the fire's glow
His heart will be yours forever
Something everyday will show
That's how you know (x5)
That's how you know he's your love
That's how you know
That's how you know he's your love
