March Madness Bracket Contests 2011

Just like last year, the team here at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives has done all the research for you to make the most of your March Madness 2011 experience. Hint to our readers: the contests get better as you scroll down.

First, ESPN has posted their 2011 March Madness Tournament Challenge, and I'm afraid $10,000 is not nearly as interesting as a million bucks. You'd think with sponsors like State Farm and Sprint, ESPN could pony up the money to make it a little more interesting for us.

The CBS Sports Bracket Challenge is offering a chance to win four tickets to the 2012 Final Four.
The good news: this year, BracketContest.com is again offering to pay one million dollars for the perfect bracket. The bad news: two years ago, all I had to give up to register was my e-mail address, snail mail address, and phone number, and they kept my mailbox full of scantily clad women and swimsuit calendars all year long. Last year, prizes would only be paid to participants that have an active account at Jazz Sportsbook or ABC Islands. An active account is defined as having funds and having played at least $50 during four out of the past seven days. Last year I passed on giving up my bank account and stuck with the free stuff....this year, I can't tell if they're going to require more information from me before I can submit my million-dollar-bracket...will let you know. I'm sending the swimsuit calendars to my office this year to keep the boys guessing.

WRALSportsFan.com has a $1,000,000 Bracket Challenge. Getting 1 or 2 wrong gets you $10,000. Miss 3 games and you can still win $1,000.

So here's the best perfect bracket contest I've found: Yahoo is offering a shot at $1 million in the Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick 'Em 2011!! Each person/household/Yahoo ID can fill out five (5) different brackets for five shots at the million bucks.

Having found our readers all of the March Madness Perfect Bracket Challenges you need AND cheered the local Mendham Patriots 5th grade girls to a 15-14 buzzer beater victory over Chester. Roxiticus Desperate Housewives must rest. Stay tuned for more March Madness and if you're the one with the perfect bracket, please thank us with an appropriate share of your winnings.

Local March Madness on Selection Sunday 3/13: Mendham vs. Chester Girls Basketball

The Mendham Patriots 5th grade girls’ travel basketball team finished their inaugural season in the Garden State League with 11 wins and 3 losses. After receiving a first round bye Mendham now opens the playoffs at home against arch rival Chester. Chester is fresh off a stunning victory at Hanover and is looking to avenge a February defeat at home at the hands of the Patriots. This one has all the makings of a nip and tuck battle that will go down to the final buzzer. Chester will bring a large contingent of friends and family with them so Mendham girls really need your help to maintain the home court advantage.

Game time is Sunday, March 13th, 3:30 PM at Mendham Township Middle School.

We hope to see you all there… Go Patriots!

Music Monday: (London and Maddie Sign Up for Mendham Patriots) Basketball with Lil Bow Wow

It's a school holiday here in the Roxiticus Valley, and London, Maddie and I are enjoying a lazy Monday morning.  I'm wearing my leopard jammies, and Rex is in the kitchen making chocolate chip pancakes.  We just signed up for Mendham Patriots Basketball (just recreational clinics on Saturday this year, but London will probably try out for the travel team when she reaches fourth grade), so our Music Monday pick is from Lil Bow Wow... we love that basketball!

::Chorus::Fundisha::
They're playing basketball (JD:Uh, all around the world)
We love that basketball (Uh, to the beat y'all)
They're playin basketball (lets go)
(All around the world)
we love that basketball
they're playin basketball
We love that basketball (y'all know this is So-So Def)
They're playing basketball (To the beat y'all)
We love that basketball (Yeah)
They're playing basketball
We love that basketball (Bow Wow:Yeah)

[Bow Wow]
Now basketball is my favorite sport, I like the way they dribble up and down the court, I keep it so fresh on the microphone, I like no interuption when the game is on, I like slam dunk that take me to the hoop, My favorite play is the alioop, I like the pick and roll, I like the give and go & its basketball bow wow, LETS GO!

::Chorus::Fundisha::
They're playing basketball (Uh,all around the world)
We love that basketball (Yeah, to the beat y'all)
They're playing basketball
We love that basketball

[Bow Wow]
Yeah, yo
I got the rock in my hands
There ain’t no tellin what i’m gonna do wit it
When i got possession i’m gonna have to fool wit it
I might cross you up and fake one way
Turn around and hit you wit the MJ fade-away
I throwin down passes like J-Kidd
Taking cats to the rack
And I’m dunkin over them like T-Mac
When I’m in the paint I play wit that Alonzo style
I’m like darious cuz I can shoot 2 miles

[Fabulous]
Don’t too many players get offers like me
I’m back-n-forth likely
Shake the checks off your nikes
They almost had me in a suit at the draft
Cuz it look like a freethrow
When I be shootin from half
The first step like Iverson, blow pass you
He’ll leave nuthin but net, but i can go blast too
When I’m in the paint the defense so shook
They don’t know if I’m gonna put up a slow hook or dish up a no-look
See my game consist of whole lotta.....
Moves you would think I learned from the Harlem Globe Trotters
JD gonna lead us to a ring
Fab and Bow Wow is the only players that makes the cheerleaders wanna sing

::Chorus::
They're playing basketball (put it up, put it up. put it up now)
We love that basketball (put it up, put it up, put it up now)
They're playing basketball (ya)
We love that basketball (put it up, put it up, put it up now)
They're playing basketball
We love that basketball

[Jermaine Dupri]
Now tell me were you in the joint
The night MJ scored 63 points
When the Lakers won titles back-to-back
Didn’t give nobody no kind of slack
When Vince Carter came
Stuck his arm in the rim
Everybody went crazy in the whole damn gym
Dikembe Mutumbo standing tall
Playing D wit desire
Its Basketball

::Chorus::Fundisha::
They're playing basketball (Uh, all around the world)
We love that basketball
They're playing basketball (put it up, put it up, put it up now)
We love that basketball
They're playing basketball (Uh, all around the world)
We love that basketball
They're playing basketball (put it up, put it up, put it up now)
We love that basketball

Snowed In and Lovin' It... Call Ignacio If You Need to Be Shoveled Out

We made it out this morning for London and Maddie's first Mendham Patriots basketball clinic, but the snow has been falling since we picked them up at Mendham Township Elementary School and headed home. I'd say we have 2 to 3 inches on the ground already, and they're promising 5 to 8 more inches plus some ice tonight. While I was hoping to post a picture before London, Maddie, Rex and I settle in for a night of Scrabble in front of a roaring fire, it looks like we'll have to wait for daylight tomorrow...and we'll hope to have a snowman for you. Meanwhile, I'm making good progress rating the 5,271 unrated songs on my iPod Classic... found a few five star gems along the way, including Savage Garden!

If you're snowed in here in Morris County, NJ, but would rather not be, call Ignacio (973) 691-2699 and his team will shovel you out for a reasonable price. We've used Ignacio for the past year or so for all of our snow shoveling, lawn mowing, and landscaping. Be sure to tell him Roxy sent you!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow (Again. Some More. Still.)

The weather forecast for the Greater Roxiticus Valley is calling for more snow this weekend. And we still haven't gotten over the last batch of ice. As Rex and I were driving over the mountain to the Bernardsville train station this morning, the sun was shining on the ice in the trees and I felt like we were inside a snow globe or life-size ice sculpture.

Every time I looked at my iPhone today, I received another note about a potential event cancellation this weekend due to bad weather. I checked Weather.com and found that we're expecting 5 to 8 inches by Saturday night. So when we returned home from NYC this evening, we headed over to Kings to lay in some provisions... we'll make Shake 'n' Bake chicken on Saturday, whether or not our 4-H Prep New Year's Party is postponed, and Rex has a recipe in mind for a huge shoulder of pork.

London and Maddie are hoping to start basketball with the Mendham Patriots tomorrow morning, but I'm sure they'd be just as happy to sled down the hill in our yard and try to build a snowman if we get the right kind of snow. Roxy the Weekend Warrior needs to get to work on my Fitness Not Fatness New Year's Resolution, and Rex and I have plenty of work to catch up on over the weekend, so I won't really mind if we're snowed in together.

What are your plans for the weekend if it snows, if it snows, if it snows?
