Music Monday: March Madness and Roxy's 1000th Post

Even though Maddie is my March Madness baby, her older sister London in the 2001 photo on the left loves playing and watching basketball, too. This weekend, the girls had their last Mendham Patriots basketball clinic -- kids won the annual parents vs. kids game -- and now it's time to settle in on the couch for three weeks of March Madness NCAA basketball action starting this Thursday, March 18th. The NCAA tournament will also be welcome entertainment for my mom, who has moved to Bridgeway rehab to recover from her hip surgery for the next few weeks.

As noted in the title of this post, you're reading Roxy's 1000th post here at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives. Back in the 1980s, when I attended Syracuse University, I was too focused on my studies to care much about the basketball team, even though I lived next door to the shiny new Carrier Dome. Since then, I have mellowed a lot, married Rex, and given birth to two basketball-loving little girls (that's six-week-old London in her Syracuse Orange bib in the photo above), and our family has come to celebrate the time of year known as March Madness.... the NCAA college basketball championships and tournament.

Now.... it has been seven long years since the Orangemen won the NCAA tournament in 2003, but as March Madness gets underway with the Orangemen ranked #1 in the country, I thought I'd share One Shining Moment with all of you.

March Madness Perfect Bracket Contests 2010

Just like last year, the team here at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives has done all the research for you to make the most of your March Madness 2010 experience. Hint to our readers: the contests get better as you scroll down.

First, ESPN has posted their 2010 March Madness Tournament Challenge, and I'm afraid $10,000 is not nearly as interesting as a million bucks. You'd think with sponsors like State Farm and Sprint, ESPN could pony up the money to make it a little more interesting for us.

The CBS Sports Bracket Challenge is offering a chance to win a new car from Infiniti... the 2011 Infiniti M.

The good news: this year, BracketContest.com is again offering to pay one million dollars for the perfect bracket. The bad news: last year, all I had to give up to register was my e-mail address, snail mail address, and phone number, and they kept my mailbox full of scantily clad women and swimsuit calendars all year long. This year, the prizes will only be paid to participants that have an active account at Jazz Sportsbook or ABC Islands. An active account is defined as having funds and having played at least $50 during four out of the past seven days. I'm going to pass and stick with the free stuff.

WRALSportsFan.com has a $1,000,000 Bracket Challenge. Getting 1 or 2 wrong gets you $10,000. Miss 3 games and you can still win $1,000.


So here's the best perfect bracket contest I've found: Yahoo is offering a shot at $1 million in the Yahoo Sports Tourney Pick 'Em 2010!! Each person/household/Yahoo ID can fill out five (5) different brackets for five shots at the million bucks.

March Madness Continues with No Million Bucks for Roxy

You know what they say, don't quit your day job. I'm up working late on a sale assignment, with some great March Madness basketball to keep me company. I had a perfect bracket (15 for 15) going into the last game of the night, Illinois (#5 seed) vs. Western Kentucky (#12 seed). At one point in the evening, while UCLA battled it out to overcome VCU, I had noticed in the background that Illinois was down by 17 points and I thought it was over. However, they came back strong at the end of the second half, but lost it (and my million bucks), 76-72.

I guess it's time to start looking for the Second Chance Bracket Busted contests...do any of you still have a perfect bracket after the first 16 games?

March Madness Is Coming!

When I first started blogging in earnest back in February 2008, one of the first things I shared with my loyal Roxiticus Desperate Housewives readers was my love of March Madness college basketball. It occasionally divides our household, when London and I root for my alma mater, the Syracuse Orangemen, and Maddie and Rex root for PostBoy's alma mater, the Villanova Wildcats. One year later, we're coming up on one of our family's favorite times of year... the end of winter, preparations for Maddie's 7th birthday, and bracketology time!

For those of you who are interested in winning a million bucks, stay tuned... I've just started researching the best web sites to win a million dollars for my perfect bracket in the NCAA Tournament. As of today -- Saturday, February 28th and the start of "Judgment Week," the last week of regular season college basketball games -- neither ESPN nor Sports Illustrated have posted any big money contests. A Google search on "March Madness million dollar bracket" points out the gambling sites that want access to your credit card or bank account in order to enter their "free" contests. A few years back, before they required the financial background info to enter their contests, I signed up, including my mailing address, and they've given me all the swimsuit calendars a girl could ever want.

I will hope that as championship week gets underway and the Madness begins, the large sports sites like ESPN and Sports Illustrated, as well as big players like AOL and Yahoo, will launch free contests. In the meantime, take note of the following important dates:

• Thursday, March 5th through Sunday, March 15th: NCAA Championship Week
• Sunday, March 15th at 6:00pm: Selection Sunday, when the 65 teams are announced
• Tuesday, March 17th through Monday, April 6th: NCAA Tournament
