Music Monday: Lipstick On Your Collar by Connie Francis

Usually you'll find Roxy stuck in the 80s, but this week London and Maddie have selected "Lipstick On Your Collar," a hit going back to 1959 from Connie Francis. It's been running through our heads because last week the girls started up at Annie's Playhouse Summer Stars again this summer, where last year the big show included 50s faves like Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, On Broadway, Love Potion Number Nine, and Lipstick On Your Collar. I made them a CD with many of the songs from the show, and we've been driving to camp with the top down on Roxy's red convertible, belting out the lyrics:

When you left me all alone
At the record hop
Told me you were going out
For a soda pop
You were gone for quite awhile
Half an hour or more
You came back
And man, oh man
This is what I saw

Lipstick on your collar
Told a tale on you
Lipstick on your collar
Said you were untrue
Bet your bottom dollar
You and I are through
'Cause lipstick on your collar
Told a tale on you, yeah

[Instrumental Interlude]

You said it belonged to me
Made me stop and think
And then I noticed yours was red
Mine was baby pink
Who walked in but Mary Jane
Lipstick all a mess
Were you smoochin' my best friend
Guess the answer's yes

Lipstick on your collar
Told a tale on you
Lipstick on your collar
Said you were untrue
Bet your bottom dollar
You and I are through
'Cause lipstick on your collar
Told a tale on you, boy
Told a tale on you, man
Told a tale on you, yeah

That's worth a trip down memory lane! Haven't heard that in a while. Another excellent Music Monday choice, thanks! :)
