Saving Up for a Dog

London and Maddie have been selling seashells down by the seashore all summer, and this year they decided to save their money (over $120 so far at 25 cents/shell) towards a pet... we explored leopard geckos, bearded dragons, and anoles, but despite London's pet allergies, we realized there's nothing like a dog. Over Labor Day weekend, we had a slumber party with the cock-a-poo who lives across the street from our beach house in Bay Head, New Jersey... and initial indications are that Cashew really is "hypo-allergenic" for London... hooray!

For many reasons, we won't be able to get a puppy until the late spring/early summer 2010. We will have to do a lot of research and make a lot of preparations, as a new puppy is quite a large responsibility. I have learned from friends' experiences that the best behaved dogs have someone (an adult human) home with them all day, at least in the early going. As our potential cockapoo breeder expresses it, "We do NOT permit people to get one of our puppies if they work full-time jobs, away from their homes. Puppies should NOT be left alone, unobserved, without human interaction for more than four (4) hours, day after day. This is analogous to putting a human infant alone in a similar scenario: how do you expect THAT CHILD would turn out!" So I will need to be in a position to work from home most days, and/or to have our nanny/babysitter show up early to take care of our new puppy. Right now that doesn't make sense for us, but I'm hoping that by June 2010, Rex and I will have our investment banking practice "under control" in a way that will allow me greater flexibility and fewer trips in to New York City.

The other confession I made to Rex last night is that I'd love to get each girl her own dog... two cockapoo sisters for two sisters!

Hi

Dropping by to ask for your prayers and support for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy. Many have already passed away, thousands are still missing and even more are left without food, shelter and clothing. Children have been separated from their parents. We really need your help - even in prayers alone as this was one of the worst flooding that has struck Metro Manila, Philippines. It is only now that we have started to rebuild, but the damages to life and property is horrendous.

Sincerely

Dogs are great pets always but they also take lots of time and work. Always remember to spend lots of time running and playing and just having fun with your dog!

Well, they aren't called man's best friend for nothing. ^_^ They are very smart and affectionate. And they're simply cute, especially the puppies on your last photo!
