Music Monday: Dream Weaver by Gary Wright

This week's Music Monday is another attempt to drive the dream demons out of London and Maddie's nightmares. When I posted about my girls' recent nightly fear of the "kid stealers," Mary was thoughtful enough to stop by with a great idea: the dream catcher.

For those of you unfamiliar with the legend, dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. The traditional dream catcher is intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the center of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them.

London and Maddie each have two dream catchers -- one homemade at Westmont Montessori a few years back, the other from our Spring Break 2007 trip to visit Rex's brother in New Mexico -- and when I read Mary's suggestion, I told her I would "reactivate" the dream catchers already hanging in their rooms. I learned last night that the girls had taken them down from their bedroom ceilings and used them to decorate their "band room" -- a cupboard-under-the-stairs-style closet in Maddie's room where the Butter Bites have their secret band meetings. At bedtime, we re-hung the dream catchers in an effort to keep out the nightmares. It worked for Maddie, who is sleeping soundly, but London ended up back in my bed, still worried that I hadn't locked all of the doors and that someone would get in to steal her.

I'm not ready to give up, as I think the dream catchers are a really cool concept, so we're going to pack them up and head down to our beach house in Bay Head, New Jersey. Ten days of rest, relaxation, sunshine and ocean waves may take some of the stress out of my life and give me more of a calming influence on London and Maddie.

So for this week's Music Monday, I give you Gary Wright's Dream Weaver, a positive vibe song about dreams.

I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind
Chorus:
Dream weaver I believe you can get me through the night
Dream weaver I believe we can reach the morning light
Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain
Chorus:
Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side
Chorus . . . . .
