Music Monday for the New Year 2009: Let's Get It Started

This week's Music Monday pick here at Roxiticus Desperate Housewives is "Let's Get It Started" by the Black Eyed Peas. I chose this video for a couple of reasons. First, one of my New Year's Resolutions is Fitness Not Fatness in 2009, and I've been pretty good about working out so far. I like the elliptical trainer in our basement gym, and I find the most energizing workout mixes include hip hop like Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" and "Let's Get It Started." The second reason I like this video is it is some guy in his basement playing the drums along with the Black Eyed Peas, and Santa brought London and Maddie a bright red set of drums for Christmas. Aunt Veg and Uncle Quiet sent the girls a book, CD and video to help them learn to play, and I'm hoping they'll get good enough to be able to play along with their fave tunes, as well as pounding out the rhythm of the Butter Bites' original songs.

Oh, and do stop by Roxy's Today.com blog about What Women Want for a taste of Tina Turner, dedicated to the love of my life... Rex.

Let's Get It Started, in here...

And the base keep runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and
runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and...

In this context, there's no disrespect, so, when I bust my rhyme, you break your necks.
We got five minutes for us to disconnect, from all intellect collect the rhythm effect.
Obstacles are inefficient, follow your intuition, free your inner soul and break away from tradition.
Coz when we beat out, girl it's pullin without. You wouldn't believe how we wow shit out.
Burn it till it's burned out. Turn it till it's turned out. Act up from north, west, east, south.

[Chorus:]
Everybody, everybody, let's get into it.
Get stupid.
Get it started, get it started, get it started.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here. Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here. Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Yeah.

Lose control, of body and soul.
Don't move too fast, people, just take it slow.
Don't get ahead, just jump into it.
Ya'll here a body, two pieces to it.
Get stutted, get stupid.
You'll want me body people will walk you through it.
Step by step, like you're into new kid.
Inch by inch with the new solution.
Trench men hits, with no delusion.
The feeling's irresistible and that's how we movin'.

Yeah.

Runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin runnin' and...

C'mon y'all, lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here) Ow, ow, ow!
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya...

Let's get ill, that's the deal.
At the gate, we'll bring the bud top drill. (Just)
Lose your mind this is the time,
Ya'll test this drill, Just and bang your spine. (Just)
Bob your head like epilepsy, up inside your club or in your Bentley.
Get messy, loud and sick.
Ya'll mount past slow mo in another head trip. (So)
Come then now do not correct it, let's get pregnant let's get hectic.

[Chorus:]
Everybody, everybody, let's get into it.
Get stupid. (Come on)
Get it started (come one) , get it started (yeah), get it started.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here. Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here.
Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started in here. Let's get it started (ha), let's get it started
(woah, woah, woah) in here.
Yeah.

Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here)
Lets get woohoo!
Lets get woohoo! (in here) Ow, ow, ow!
Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya...

Runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin', and runnin' runnin'

I love, love, love this to workout to. We would always warm up with this song at one of the classes I took at the gym. Did you know it was originally 'Let's get retarded?' My son told me that and I looked it up and sure enough...

You know this is the radio version, right? The album version is Let's Get Retarded. I hope sometime soon to play bass along to a song, post it on YouTube and have it wind up as a music monday post. Got any requests?

I think the universe is trying to tell me something. Today when I put my iPod on random and started my daily stretching and exercise routine the first three songs that came on were:

"Crazy", by Gnarles Barkley

"Fool That I Am", by Adele

"Whipping Post" by The Allman Brothers Band, (live with Duane)

BTW, if you have not discovered Adele, check her out on YouTube, she is AMAZING! I almost cried listening for the first time to her version of The Dylan classic, "Make you feel My Love" recorded at Joe's Pub in NYC

Mary,
Thanks for your note... I am not familiar with Adele... I will check her out on YouTube and maybe she'll be my next Music Monday pick. Off to bed... big day in NYC tomorrow.
