Back to School with London and Maddie... Means Lots of Homework for Mom

Mendham Township Elementary School opened its doors to London and Maddie and about 500 kindergarten through fourth graders last Thursday, and the girls are quite excited to be back at school and riding the schoolbus with their friends. A new school year means old friends, new friends, new backpacks, lunchboxes and school supplies... and of course, lots of "homework" for Roxy. So far I've only filled out one emergency contact form, but I know there have to be plenty more on the way. We ordered Target School Toolboxes for both girls and bought all the Hannah Montana and Camp Rock folders and notebooks we could find. They don't seem to make Desperate Housewives lunchboxes...bummer for me. Now we have to sharpen all the pencils (12 each of #2 and colored pencils X 2 girls = 48 pencils) and put labels on everything....lunchboxes, art smocks, water bottles, pencil boxes, and all those folders and notebooks.

London and Maddie each got three new pairs of fancy jeans they intend to wear as part of their girl band "uniform"...this a big change from Kindergarten Maddie who said jeans were "tooooooooooo tight." And I'm sure it would be a good idea to have my children's clothes clearly labelled with their names as well. Did I mention that London is the only Brownie whose badges are stapled instead of sewn onto her vest? Her troop leader keeps saying, "I'll let that slide for now...."

When I was a kid, I had a bit of a stationery fetish...actually, I still do...and I begged my parents for notebooks, pencils, pens, folders and a Dymo label maker to print Roxy, Roxy, Roxy all over my school supplies. Now that I'm the mom in charge, I should run right out and get one...there will be color labels on everything in sight! If only Dymo made adhesive Girl Scout "Try It" badges...

Hiya Roxy! GP is feeling very blue today, but ur story on ur girls is putting a smile on my face. The girls' school reminds me of my old elementary school when I was studying in Canada! :)
