The Mom With Brownies Saves the Day!

My loyal Roxiticus Desperate Housewives readers may or may not recall that Thursday, June 12th, is Incredible Kid Day in London's first grade class. Rex and I will go in to Mendham Township Elementary School and read aloud the letters we wrote to our daughter amidst a bunch of teary-eyed parents who will be filled with love and....hungry for brownies.

And that's where we learn that I am not such an Incredible Mom. I forgot. So here I am in the middle of the night, breezing around the blogosphere, dropping EntreCards when Bill Gates' dog pops up on my screen with 52 reminders including, "Bake Tray of 24 Brownies for Incredible Kid Day (5 hours overdue)." With 11 hours to go until the Incredible Kid Day celebration, I get out of bed and run downstairs to check the cupboard...and my cupboard is not bare, but it does not contain any boxes of Betty Crocker quick and easy brownie mix. So I muster a wry laugh to myself and think something only a fellow blogger/Entrecarder/SocialSparker could possibly think: "I'm the Mom Without Brownies"...a reference to fellow blogger Shelly, the Mom With Brownies, who always has a plate of brownies on the table and another tray baking in the oven...AND AN EASY RECIPE RIGHT THERE AT THE TOP OF HER BLOG!

So I dash away, dash away across the blogosphere to find Shelly's cheap and yummy brownie recipe, right where she left it:

6 TBSP cocoa, 1/4 C butter, 1 C sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/3 C flour, 2 eggs, Cook 350 - 25 mins.

I comment about my dilemma on one of her recent posts, Shelly comes back quickly with "be sure to double my recipe to get 24 brownies," I run back downstairs to confirm that I have all the ingredients in the house, and I do...including a nice full can of Ghirardelli sweet cocoa for baking. Thanks to the Mom With Brownies, I'm no longer the Mom Without Brownies on Incredible Kid Day!

Thursday 10:45am update: The brownies just came out of the oven and the whole house smells amazing. I tripled Shelly's recipe, so there will be enough for London's class and anyone who stops by and comments here today. Mariuca and Henson, your brownies are in the mail.

Thursday 3:50pm update: Incredible Kid Day was....incredible! Mrs. Brown's First Grade Class really is a group of sweet, smart, funny and fun, athletic, incredible kids, and it was great to hear all of the proud parents reading their letters. The brownies were a HUGE hit...London had actually included "my mom makes the best brownies" in one of her creative writing projects for the year, so I'm thrilled that the Mom Almost Without Brownies didn't let her down.

Now Rex and the girls and I are off to see Twyla Tharp's dance interpretation of Billy Joel in Movin' Out at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, New Jersey, so I will see you all on Friday morning....

Thanks for dropping by, and don't forget, I have enough brownies left over for anyone who leaves a comment on this post. Oh, and the Brownie Bribe: a double helping for anyone who votes for Roxiticus Desperate Housewives in our current Battle of the Blogs...we're up against the cows...well, actually cow patties (sorry, Stik!)

Roxy, you should be commended on this post. Not only did you write a funny story, but you also managed to plug a fellow blogger at the same time. It's nice to know that the blogosphere is there to help when life becomes overwhelming. But since you mentioned baking brownies, I hope you baked enough for all of us readers as well.

Sorry to be late but my PC crashed night before last.

I just now got it back up and running this morning. Now I am on a mad dash to get caught up.

And we are only hours away from Tam's house.

That's right we are in Massachusetts!! Only a spin around the loop and here comes Maine!!:-)

Roxi you are too much! Thank you for the HUGE plug. I'm glad to help and I'll be sure to read your Public School shout out. Kudos to teachers!

I hope your Incredible Day is a blast. :-)

I have a great brownie recipe, but you need a specially infused butter. Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can get it at any of our fine and legal medicinal dispensaries, but everywhere else you have to make it yourself. The best brand in the bay is called I Can't Believe it's Pot Butter!

ACK!! I hope I'm not too late for a brownie! Sounds like you had a GREAT day, but I'll bet you're exhausted now.

I've been resisting that brownie recipe, but now you've done it -- I'm going to have to go home now and make a batch.

Matt,
I didn't see Mamma Mia, and, while I like Abba, I'm not quite as big a fan as you are, so I don't think I can post a comparison...I am hard at work on my "official" Movin' Out post while I try to do a little last minute investment banking work, laundry, and get packed for Father's Day weekend at the beach!
I'll trust you to provide the Mamma Mia coverage...
