Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.
Oh! Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when Puff roared out his name.
Oh! Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.
Oh! Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.
I know it's not Music Monday, but when I heard that world famous folk singer Peter Yarrow is coming to Mendham Books, I wanted to share the lyrics from my favorite Peter, Paul and Mary song. I know it's just another song that I've become a blubbering moooommmy, but I get all weepy when I hear this song.
Peter Yarrow will be at Mendham Books in Mendham, New Jersey tomorrow -- Friday, December 12th at 4:00pm. He will be performing selections from and signing his two new children's books, Sleepytime Songs and Favorite Folk Songs.
Peter Yarrow is an American folk singing legend who found fame with the 1960s folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Yarrow co-wrote the group's most famous song, "Puff, the Magic Dragon." By 1962, Warner Brothers Records released the trio's first album. The album remained in the Top Ten for ten months, in the Top Twenty for two years, and sold more than two million copies. The group has toured extensively and recorded numerous albums, both live and in the studio. As a member of that folk music trio, Peter Yarrow earned a 1996 Emmy nomination for the Great Performances special "LifeLines Live", a highly acclaimed celebration of folk music.

Hi Roxy, I am back today! How is ur week coming alon? It's Friday here so happy weekend to me! :)
I wonder what this song really meant for the people who wrote this song...
I had a few puffs of the old magic dragon last night!
At first I thought, "Whoa! How old IS this dude? Is this a little creepy?"
Then I checked his Wikipedia listing and learned he's 70, and that he is quite the humanitarian. He has remained active, involved, and generous. He received various awards in this past decade.
So now I say, "Cool!"
