Kentucky Derby Time

Is anybody going to the Kentucky Derby, or are we all just watching it on TV?

Here are the horses:
Big Brown (named after UPS and favored by most to win)
Pyro
Colonel John
Denis of Cork
Court Vision
Visionaire
Cool Coal Man
Adriano
Monba
Big Truck
Cowboy Cal
Tale of Ekati
Z Fortune
Anal Nakal
Bob Black Jack
Gayego
Eight Belles
Smooth Air
Halo Najib
Recapture the glory
Behind at the bar

I can't pick just one, so I'm going with Pyro and Big Truck. Which horse do you pick to win?

Post-Race Update:
Big Brown won by five lengths. Eight Belles, the filly, finished second, but sadly collapsed (and was euthanized immediately) just after the race. Denis of Cork was third.

My picks, Big Truck and Pyro and their jockeys went out for a mint julep halfway through the race...have I mentioned I'm not a lucky person? I guess it's lucky that I didn't have any money on the race.

I wanted Gayego -- as much for the owners as for the horse. Two imprisoned Cuban political prisoners come to America, buy a horse and win the Derby -- would have been a great story.

But poor Eight Belles. Puts me in mind of how Ruffian went when I was a kid.

Sad for the horse they put down :( I've never been very lucky with horse races, or gambling for that matter LOL

I watched the race but poor Eight Belles, that is why I can't stand the sport. I know the animals live well and don't suffer but they get hurt so easily!

I did not watch the Derby, but the story of Eight Belles is so tragic, I couldn't help but be affected. So sad, and such a beautiful horse. I hate it when animals get hurt like that.

Rox, Yes it was, thanks for taking the time to read the post--I think most on BotB did NOT do that, otherwise there's no way I would have lost 3 battles straight.

Dawn, thank you so much for stopping by and taking time to read the post. Your comments are much appreciated, and I think representative of how most people are feeling.

Matt, I always root for the filly. Genuine Risk was the first horse I ever betted on in the Kentucky Derby, she went off at 10-1; and as you may remember almost won the Triple Crown. She was 2nd in the Preakness and 2nd in the Belmont to two different horses. The media doesn't talk about it, but her record of 1-2-2 in all three triple crown races is the best record overall in the triple crown since it was last won back in 1978.

It's always sad to hear about a racehorse, or any animal, having to be put down prematurely, but especially at this setting just moments after the race.

Cheers!
